Getting to the second movie I watched…it’s Blood Diamond starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Conelly and Djimon Hounsou…it’s about another important issue that has always been the center of controversy…it about Africa…it’s about the exploitation in Africa…the exploitation of every available resource in that continent…the story features more on the flourishing diamond mining trade in Sierra Leone…which fuels the money needed for purchasing arms to fuel the civil war…the diamonds procured from these war torn areas have earned themselves the name as “Conflict Diamonds”…the movie shows the stark reality where children are not made slaves, but something even worse killing machines…the age at which they must be holding pencils they are forced to hold an AK-47 and fire it away on women who are like their mothers and other children who could be their brothers and sisters…the situation these children are put through is so harrowing that a son refuses to identify his father after staying in a training camp and even attempts to kill him…this has always been a problem in Africa…a country so precious in resources, in culture has seen the worst kind of crimes against humanity…the most extreme kind of exploitation…never would have anyone believed that an exquisite and marvelous diamond would have been got by chopping of the hands of an innocent human…im not saying don’t buy diamonds, well just don’t buy these conflict diamonds…one of the most magnificent moments in the movie is when Djimon Hounsou stands outside a jewellery store in London and looks at a diamond jewellery set after seeing the worst in Sierra Leone…Sierra Leone is now at peace…but what saddened me the most was the satistic that was given in the movie just before the credits started to roll…there are still around 200,000 child soldiers in Africa…they are children for heaven’s sake…not butchers!!!
Double Whammy! – Part 1
30 AprAfter a long time i watched a couple of movies today…back to back…and i must say i did not blow up four hours of my holiday…both were really sensational movies…movies that depict the harsh reality which we know is true but refuse to believe…one was Munich and the other the more recent Blood Diamond. Munich is about the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes in the 1972 Munich Olympics which was orchestrated by a terror group called The Black September. In retaliation to this a group of 5 men from the Mossad are directed to kill 11 people responsible for the massacre. One of the worst moments for a glorious sporting spectacle; moments of grief, sadness, feelings of revenge, grudge against the Arabs. The result of the political differences and constricted views of certain religious fanatics – brutal massacre of ambassadors of peace; of people who knew nothing about politics but just a bunch of guys who were giving everything to their country. In retaliation the terrorists who orchestrated the attack are assassinated. In this raging war for supremacy between the Arabs and the Israeli government – like always the civilians suffered major casualties. For all those who wondered in which movie has the recent James Bond acted – well its in this. Daniel Craig supports Eric Bana who plays the role of Avner…well this post may sound more like a movie review…but the this post is just more than that…its about the never ending war…Israeli’s take on the Arabs and then retaliation..looks like an unending war…not only in the middle East but even in numerous other places, in my own country India in Kashmir which is ravaged by war, by terrorist attacks…when will all the blood shed end?And for whom is all this blood shed, when there will be no one to rejoice after the war is done…even to this day there are deaths everyday in the Middle East…a war which will end only when people recognize that there is one religion above all else…it’s not being a Sikh, Hindu, Arab, Jew, Muslim or a Christian…it’s not about being an Indian, American, British…but a religion higher than all else…well im not saying that we must not be proud of our nation…we sure must be, because what we are today is because of our country…but most of the World’s problems will be solved if everyone strongly vests their belief in a religion far superior to anything else…it’s that of HUMANITY!!!
