…and the Matrix

23 Jun

Hi folks$!

Firstly thanks all to your comments…check out the blogs in the links…they’re sure to get on you…

Yes you guessed it right…this is about the Wachowski’s and their awesome mind blowing creation THE MATRIX…BOLTHROWER you are going to like this one…by the way, BOLTHROWER aka Chandan…What i did infact realise while watching the movies was numerous references to the Hindu Philosophy…the idea that the Matrix is just a simulation program referred to as Maya…where as the self-realisation or the true existence being the Bramhan…that is the real world…the one in which Neo awakens after he is rescued by Morpheus…the Matrix is just a computer program, a set of instructions, rather a set of rules to be followed…and once you have the rules you invariably have loopholes and exceptions…you can bend the rules…this is precisely what the One (Neo) does in the Matrix…some similar references can also be found about this in the Hinduism…where some spectacular feats have been achieved through belief, concentration and the sheer will to do things…

All the publicity, the stunts, the special effects, the ultra-cool punk soundtrack and slick leather aside, this trilogy has persisted as a cult movie because of the varied strata of metaphysical and abstract ideas it conjures in the mind of the viewers…the release of The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions only raised more questions in the audience than answering those which were raised by the Matrix…the Wachowski brothers left several people mystified with I must say, three masterpieces…

After a war between the humans and the machines, the humans sought out to end the war by blocking the sun’s rays, solar energy…the enrgy the machines thrived upon…the machines later find a more potent and everlasting source of energy…human beings, who are cast in pods containing gelatinous substances and the electric impulses generated in the human body due to the feelings are used to drive the machines…these humans are inserted into the Matrix, essentially a computer program that enables them to view things as they would want to…but the question that arises is how exactly did the machines know that what a human tastes is either a chicken or vine and not something else? These machines could sure measure the wavelength of light or the frequency of sound…but how could they determine that what a person percieved was actually Red colour or what a person heard was actually music and not noise? This could have never been known by these machines…this can be felt only by the conscious mind – a state called “qualia”…

And one more thing I just couldn’t understand about the movies…all the crew memebers of the Nebuchadnezzar or people of Zion exited the Matrix through a telephone line…but how did they manage to enter into the Matrix? Was there anyone to answer their call? Were the calls directed to answering machines? This thought must have made the Wachowski’s wonder how to provide a logical explanation…so the answer was simple…blatantly ignored it…

This blog is going to evoke mixed reactions by the people reading it…its going to drive some crazy…just watch the movies…if you havent you have missed something…

God bless all…

Psychomusical Connections…

9 Jun

Pschyo meaning of the mind…the connection of the mind to certain songs, certain pieces of music to certain events…i have been bogged down by this since a very long time…the effects were very prominent after 10th standard when we shifted to a new house…everything was fine, even now it is…then one day i heard this song from Pukar…a Lata Mangeshkar track…”Hey Ishwar Ya Allah, Yeh Pukar Sun Le”…and zap!!!
was back to my 10th standard exam time…i had heard it once then…suddenly it was that overwhelming feeling of being thrown back in time before the exams…such is the connection of my mind to some of music i have heard; happens even now…effects much more prominent; like a time machine warping me to certain events in the past.

Used to listen to this track of Metallica called “Don’t Tread On Me” just when i joined my engineering…when i play that song now…everything rewinds into those days…the beginning of a change…a change over four years, that would change everything.

Some other associations have been songs of Jal with our recent class trip…i guess everyone on the trip listening to those tracks will surely feel it…a Pink Floyd, “Brick in the Wall” with my seventh semester…a tingling feeling it gives me…

So here is the new term…Psychomusical Connections…actually this blog had to originally have the title “Psychomusical Connections of a Different Kind”…then it struck me…these kind of connections are different and so i scrapped the rest of the title…
